CHARITY TO BENEFIT FROM GLAMOROUS SA TENNIS OPEN LADIES DAY

  • Starfish Greathearts Foundation to score
  • Top tennis stars to strut their stuff

Edith Venter

Johannesburg, South Africa – Ladies Day is a popular concept at tennis tournaments around the world and this year’s SA Tennis Open to be played at Montecasino in Johannesburg, from February 1 to 7 will be no exception.

Wednesday, February 3 will be Ladies Day at this tournament and one charity will come out the winner of this glamorous event. Presented by Dimension Data, all proceeds from Ladies Day will go to the Starfish Greathearts Foundation.

Ladies Day is going to be a fun-filled day of tennis, entertainment, fashion and prizes and those attending will also be treated to a delicious brunch on arrival and high tea at 3pm. Ladies are encouraged to “think Wimbledon’’ and dress glamorously, including some elegant hats. There will be prizes for the best-dressed lady, as well as the lady with the best hat.  Prize giving will take place on centre court between matches.

Ladies Day will be served up from 10am in the Hospitality Tent at Montecasino. The ladies will not only be able to watch some of the acclaimed sportsmen in the world in action on court, but will also have an opportunity of meeting some of them at the event. This, of course, will depend on their schedules, but with the likes of Spanish pin-up boy David Ferrer, and Frenchmen Gael Monfils and Jeremy Chardy, who has already admitted his eagerness to become an actor, in action, this is a mouthwatering proposition indeed.

The cost is R300 per person with all the funds going directly to the Starfish Greathearts Foundation, an international development charity, aiming to bring life, hope and opportunity to children in South Africa, who have been orphaned or made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS. Starfish seeks to inspire individuals around the world to take positive action against the View full article »

JEREMY CHARDY, THE TENNIS PLAYERS WITH AN ACTOR’S HEART

Johannesburg, South Africa - Frenchman Jeremy Chardy is fast becoming a loyal supporter of South African tennis. He first played at the SA Open in East London two years ago where he reached the semifinals and last year he reached his first tour-level final in February at the inaugural SA Tennis Open at Montcasino in Johannesburg, defeating World No 13 David Ferrer before falling to countryman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Five months later, he claimed his first ATP World Tour title at the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart.

The flamboyant Frenchman will be back at the Montecasino Stadium from February 1 to 7 to take his place in this year’s SA Open.

But things could be a lot different for him this time. Ferrer will be back while fellow Frenchman Gael Monfils will be in the line-up. But Chardy’s rise up the rankings form 73 to 32, is almost certain to see him start off this year’s tournament as the No 3 seed.

An article in Deuce, on the ATP World Tour website, describes Chardy as loyal, family View full article »
